December 13, 2015 ~ Antarctica Day 2
Cierva Cove is a cove on the West Antarctic Peninsula, lying just North of Hughes bay.
The Birth of an Iceberg:
A zodiac cruise here showed a beautiful example of a glacier surrounded by brash ice, accumulations of floating ice made up of fragments not more than 2 meters across, the wreckage of other forms of ice. As the glacier terminates in to the sea large pieces will break off in a process called calving. Once these pieces hit the water they become icebergs.
